The PicSight GigE camera family takes full advantage of the well established Gigabit Ethernet hardware standard which is used to tranfer digital data in computer networks. This technology is well approved since years in industrial environments and therefore suitable for vision applications. Beside the low cost of the network components you get as benefit the posibility to use cables up to hundret meters. From a single PC you may control several cameras in a network using a switch device. Looking back to Vision Stuttgart 2005 where Leutron Vision presented as pioneer a complete family of GigE cameras, PicSight Cameras where mainly controlled by the Leutron Vision Image Acquisition API. In the meantime Leutron Vision was contributing with all its experience to the GigEVision and the GenICam standards in order to offer an open software interface to the Vision community. The flexible architecture of PicSight GigE which is based on a RISC processor fullfills the GigEVision/GenICam standard in parallel to the Leutron Vision propriatary frame grabber SDK.
The GigEVision/GenICam standards are used by image processing software such as Halcon from MVTec, Common VisionBlox from Stemmer, LabView from National Instruments, MIL from Matrox, VisionPro from Cognex, and more, to acquire images from GigE cameras. If you are using one of these vision software solutions, PicSight GigE can be used as a plug and play device, and you need no drivers from Leutron Vision. More...
You may want to write your own image acquisition routines, but are not familiar with the rules of GigEVision/GenICam. In this case the image acquisition API LVSDS of Leutron Vision is the right choice. LVSDS can be used to acquire images from all Leutron Vision cameras and frame grabbers, you may change or combine the hardware interface technology between GigE, USB or CameraLink according your requirements. For the Gurus of the vision scene Leutron Vision offers the possibility to program a C/C++ based application directly on the cameras RISC processor. For this purpose the PicSight Smart Camera Family is avalable as an extension of PicSight GigE. OEMs may produce their own low cost vision system reusing their image processing expertise. If you own image processing routines written in C or C++, PicSight Smart offers a great oportunity to use your previous made investment again on a new plattform avoiding the cost of the PC. More...
Understanding network performance
You may have experienced performance problems with your computer network and are wondering if this applies as well to the GigEVision cameras. The flexible RISC based architectue of PicSight GigE offers the possibility to fine tune your network almost for any constellation. More...
